2002 Accomplishments

Tree Planting & Adopt-a-Green Space

• Planted 25 street trees and coordinated volunteers for the annual street tree planting. Trees were purchased with CDBG funds and city funds. 15 volunteers involved.
• Maintained Perkins Pier Greenspace Organized volunteers to assist with weeding, pruning, litter removal, spring cleanup in pocket park. 3 volunteers.

Burlington Community Tree Nursery

• Planted 65 trees in the Burlington Community Tree Nursery for future planting onto Burlington streets. Established permanent nursery plot, and maintained trees. 55 volunteers involved.
• Submitted proposals to Burlington Rotary Club and National Tree Trust to support nursery Award decisions pending. ($7,500 awarded) 4 volunteers involved.
• Wrote CDBG grants for new trees in Wards 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6, ($8,000 awarded) 10 volunteers involved.

Community Education

• Submitted two proposals to VT TLC grant program. Awarded $2,626 for Tree Planting and $1000 for continued BOB! educational activities. 4 volunteers involved.
• Organized Summer Tree Walk led by Nancy Knox and Warren Spinner. Received TLC grant to cover costs, over 20 people attended. 6 volunteers involved.
• Prepared and printed BOB! brochure for Hill Section Tree walk Brochure was handed out at the walk and other BOB! events. 5 volunteers involved.
• Prepared and printed BOB! brochure for describing Trees at the Burlington Community Tree Nursery 1 volunteers involved.
• Coordinated Tree Planting in memory of Heroes of Sept. 11, 2001 and arranged ceremony Tree planted at each of 9 public schools, 3 at Battery Park, covered by local TV station. TLC funded trees, local landscapers planted trees, material for constructing plaques for each school tree donated by local metalworker. UVM watered trees over the summer. Donations by 10 local businesses totaled over $1,000. 6 volunteers involved.
